Workshop on stone carving at Youlgrave School

Reflection on the Sculpture Residency

I was instantly welcomed by the locals - a mixture of farmers and other village workers, commuters and holiday makers. Most thought the sculpture an excellent idea but couldn't believe it was happening in their village.
I met older people who used to work in the local quarries. They told me a lot of stories. They were very interested in what I was making, eager to see what tools I used and to discuss the stone I had chosen. I was pleased that it was considered a good choice!
