Reflection on site 8
The Residency Stone at site 8 is the only stone, so far, to be attacked or vandalised.
Shortly after installation both noses were removed by chisel and the eyes gauged.
We can only speculate why.
Was the shear size of the stone an imposition? Being our only figurative stone was it too sculptural?
Attacked during the summer of the Countryside Alliance's Liberty and Livelihood rally (London 2002), was it a symbol of changing values and uses of the countryside?
The stone is now repaired and remains intact.
